Water Museum
Project designed along with Laura A. Baez, Melissa Sánchez and Natalia Alonso.
The Water museum was conceived as a water plant for the town of Moguí, a village of 5000 inhabitants in the mountains of the Sugamuxi Province, only a few kilometers away from the Ocetá Mooreland.
The cultural tradition of the town is the soccer ball industry renowned all over the country.
Monguí is also included into the the colonial architecure heritage towns of Colombia
In spite of it's location and it's great amount of water due for the river branches flowing from the moores, there are still some rural areas outside the town center where drinkable water is not available.
This last factor caught our attention. From there we tried to develop a sustainable and cheap way to get drinkable water for the people, diversify it's main attactions and include the people in the process.
Studying the weather conditions of the area we noticed the big amount of rain and fog and we thought of a building that could work as a cloud. Collecting the water either from the rain and from the humidity of the fogs that descend from the moore.
Following we were inspired by the shape of the clouds and the rocky topography. That way the shape of the building was developed and in addition with a hydrophilic facade we managed to accomplish the first step.
From that onwards, we only had to develop a sustainalbe way to treat the water collected and make the building attactive to tourists and locals. We did it by turning the process into an exhibition. A museum of water, its importance and its treatment was created.
